Lot Essay

The lithograph depicts the enormously successful singer Paula Brébion, who was described by Georges Montorgueil as 'dark and powerful, with wide open eyes light as water, and the lisping voice of a little girl, when she wistfully stretches out her lovely arms, singing her constant refrain 'Ah, how I love the soldier boys!'
