Lot Essay

We are grateful to Alessandro Morandotti for confirming the attribution from a photograph. He compares the present painting to the faces of the musical angels, painted in 1608, in the presbytery in the Church of Saints Gusmeo and Matthew in Gravedona, Como. He also believes the influence of Giulio Cesare Procaccini, always evident in his work, to have found a new, suggestive expression in the present painting.
