Lot Essay

The heavy ropetwist molding, panelled doors with outset double molded borders, and paw feet are all characteristics of work produced by Edinburgh cabinetmaker William Trotter (d.1833) for George Home at Paxton House (see F. Bamford, 'A Dictionary of Edinburgh Wrights and Furniture Makers', F.H.S.J., 1983, pl.49, 55A, 55B and 61). See footnote to lot 332 for more information on Trotter.
