MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY)

Of rectangular shape with canted corners of two tiers and fitted with an interior tray, decorated on the exterior in takamaki-e, kirigane and nashiji with a landscape, continued on the sides of the box, of gold and silver cherry and pine trees, a waterfall, hills and a shrine on a brilliant gold ground, the interior tray matching within a border of hirame and the interiors and base of the box rich nashiji--3½ x 2¾ x 2¼in. (8.8 x 7 x 5.5cm.)
