The rectangular writing box decorated on the lid and sides in takamaki-e, kirigane and kimpun in gold and silver on a roiro ground with a shrine complex surrounded by pines and bands of clouds, the underside of the lid ornamented with a literary scene of court women in a villa overlooking a garden in gold and silver on a lustrous nashiji ground, the lower section of the box matching the garden details and ground; fitted with two removable brush trays, a large ink stone and silver mizuire of fan form pierced with a crescent moon--9¾ x 8 5/8 x 1¾in. (24.5 x 21.8 x 4.6cm.), edge nicks, larger chip inside bottom edge, surface scratches and oxidation
