MEIJI PERIOD (19TH CENTURY), SIGNED MIYAO ZO
Cast with the left foot balanced on an overturned bell and raising above the head with both hands an oni, struggling to free himself from the grasp and clasping a large raffia bag, the bag moulded at the top with circular well to support a candle, the costume of the warrior cast with gilt phoenixes and chased with clouds and finished in a dark brown patina, the face and limbs of the figures medium brown, lacquered wood stand--20in. (50.8cm.) high
