1939 FORD V8 DELUXE MODEL 91A CONVERTIBLE SEDAN

Nearly five million Model As had been built by March 31st, 1932, when its successor arrived, the Ford V8. The original cars offered 65bhp for as little as $460. Never before had so much power and so many cylinders been offered for so little. The V8 was popular with the go-faster crowd, whether they were interested in racing or in an illegal fast getaway, as was the bank robber Clyde Barrow who wrote Henry Ford a testimonial letter. The racing specials were a mainstay of the Automobile Racing Club of America in the mid to late Thirties.
The 1939 Fords were, as in previous years, divided into Standard and DeLuxe models. The DeLuxe models had a much more modern appearance. Their teardrop-shaped headlights blended smoothly into the leading edges of the front fenders. Simple chrome trim replaced the hood louvres and a smoother body profile was featured. The most significant development was the long-awaited adoption by Ford of hydraulic brakes.
Although Seymour Rosenblatt collected cars such as the Lincoln Model KB, this Ford V8 was amongst his favorite driving cars. This car offers a sound example of a good touring car, mechanically it is said to be in first class order having been rebuilt around ten years ago. The bodywork and interior was probably restored around twenty five years ago and the vehicle has clearly been well maintained and used sparingly since then. Mr. Rosenblatt acquired this V8 in March 1976 from John and Annette Boyle of Cleveland, Ohio. The four door Deluxe Convertible Sedan was a rare bodystyle for the Ford company and in 1939 only 3561 were produced as opposed to over 140,000 for the more common Deluxe Tudor sedan.
