With an eared rounded rectangular black slate top above a conforming frieze applied with foliate scrolls centering a lion's mask above a chamfered rectangular case fitted with two doors centrally inset with oval panels applied with various hardstones depicting a ribbon-tied bouquet centering an exotic bird surrounded by similarly decorated panels above a shaped apron applied with foliate scrolls, on compressed bun feet, the lockplate inscribed 'DIEHL 19R. MICHEL LE COMTE ,PARIS'

Lot Essay

Charles-Guillaume Diehl (1811-1885) is recorded as having worked in Paris at Rue Michel Le-Comte frome 1853 throught 1885. Diehl specialized in reproducing a range of furniture in the Rococo and Neo-classic styles using ormolu and porcelain mounts and hardstone panels on precious woods. (see D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le Mobilier Français du XIXe Siècle, pp.165-167).
