A pair of creamware fable decorated fluted plates
inspired by the works of La Fontaine, one painted with the fable of 'The Lion and the Gnat' with a lion pouncing, titled L.II. F.9 Le Lion et Le Moucheron. to the reverse, the other with 'The Calf, the Goat, and the Ewe with the Lion' with a lion trapping it's kill on a rock among animals, titled LI. F. 6. La Génisse, la Chèvre et la Brebis en société avec le Lion., both within iron-red lines beloa yellow shaped rims, indistinct monograms, impressed marks -- 9½in. (24.2cm.) diam., circa 1870 (some minor wear and flaking)
