LATE 19TH CENTURY

Each of slightly tapering cylindrical shape, two with branch bracket handle, the interior lined, the exterior decorated in repousse, one with equstrians and others catching lions and dragons, centering a circular cartouche engraved HG, the base with an obscure mark and with pseudo English hallmarks including a sovereign's head, leopard head crowned and lion passant, another with musicians performing a concert before a dignitary, the base marked KHC with similar pseudo hallmarks, the last with scholars and dignitaries at table around pagodas, centering a shaped shield, the base marked CW with a two-character mark

Lot Essay

The CW mark is rare. Crosby notes it on a cardcase and postulates a date of circa 1880, p.256
