The stepped rectangular cornice with dentilled moulding above three mirror-backed doors enclosing seven adjustable shelves in total, the writing-slope enclosing twenty-four mahogany-lined small drawers, the lower section with two short drawers and a pair of doors enclosing two slides, the reverse of the doors with slide supports, on later bracket feet, restorations, previously with further mounts to the drawer-fronts of the lower section

Lot Essay

The commode-fronted and bracket-footed secretaire supports a dentil-cornice cabinet with lower recessed cabinets such as feature in a pattern of 1760, illustrated in T. Chippendale The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, London, 3rd ed., 1762, pl. CXII.
