The channelled oval padded back headed by an anthemion and serpentine seat covered in cream, pink and green floral cotton, on turned, fluted legs, the underside with cramp-cuts and batten carrying-holes and inscribed in white paint '194/1818' and with two plastic labels, one printed 'PATTERN', the other 'OM 728', previously green-painted, the left seat-rail replaced

The channelled oval splat with pierced anthemion, above a padded serpentine seat covered in cream trellis cotton, on square tapering fluted legs and block feet, the underside inscribed in white paint '170/4587' and with plastic label 'OM 4587', restorations to splat, one back leg spliced

The channelled moulded oval frame centred by a pierced patera within serpentine splats, above a dished padded seat covered in dark-green velvet, on channelled and moulded square tapering leg, joined by H-shaped stretchers, the underside inscribed in white paint '225/6035', in pencil '6035' and with plastic label 'OM 6035', restorations (3)
Provenance
The Parker Knoll records state that the third chair was acquired from Lewis, in 1924, for £7.0.0.

On loan to the Bath Preservation Trust until, December 1997.

Lot Essay

The medallion back of the second chair is in the antique manner promoted around 1780 by James Wyatt (d.1813). It relates to the 'honeysuckle' flowered pattern illustrated in the 1785 Estimate Sketch Book of Gillows of London and Lancaster (L. Boynton (ed.) Gillow Furniture Designs, Royston, 1995, no. 268).
