With oval channelled and fluted padded back, and scrolling arms and fluted seat covered in orange and floral stripes, on stop-fluted tapering legs headed by floral patera, the underside inscribed in white paint '228/3468' and with plastic label 'O.M. 3468', restorations and replacements, redecorated, with pegged construction

AND A GREEN-PAINTED AND PARCEL-GILT OPEN ARMCHAIR
The oval padded back, arms and serpentine seat covered in striped pink and white silk, above a fluted apron flanked by patera, on ring-turned and tapering fluted legs, and bun feet, previously with castors, the underside inscribed in white paint '229/1225' and with plastic label 'OM1225', the back seat-rail with two holes, redecorated (2)

The first chair was on loan to Aston Hall, Birmingham, until December 1997.

Lot Essay

The Parker Knoll records state that the first chair was acquired in 1913 for £7.10.0 and the second chair was acquired from Millar, on 15 August 1911, for £6.0.0.
