A GEORGE III MAHOGANY OPEN ARMCHAIR
The curved stepped padded back, outscrolled arms and seat covered in brown leather, with central vase-shaped splat flanked by inwardly curved arm-supports, on square chamfered legs, joined by turned stretchers, one ear and the shoe replaced, later cross-strutts, the underside with plastic label 'OM 2339' and inscribed '104/2339'

Lot Essay

A fretted-splat library chair of this pattern from Kedleston Hall, Derbyshire, was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 21 June, 1990, lot 154. Chairs of this design are thought to have once been used for furnishing the Bank of England.
