The rectangular plate within a later gilt laurel slip and a pierced deeply scrolling foliate frame with mask to the base, possibly previously a picture frame

Lot Essay

A similar mirror, albeit of larger scale, with the same vigurous foliate scrolls in walnut and an inner parcel-gilt laurel slip is in the Soprintendenza ai beni artistici in Modena and was previously probably in the in the town's Palazzo Ducale (G. Manni, Mobili in Emilia, Modena, 1986, p. 242, fig. 144).
