Lot Essay

With a meticuolous and subtle pennellata - reminiscent of the sophisticated brushstroke of the 18th Century vedutisti - Grubacs has recreated the animated atmosphere of the Piazza San Marco. The Basilica and the Palazzo Ducale, with its delicate bi-chromatic facade (the white and rose marble typical of the architecture in Venice), dominate the Piazza, whilst the Leone di San Marco stands triumphant on its column at the end of the Piazzetta.
