Lot Essay

The seven-character stanza can be translated:
The waterfall in long cascades falling into wavy pond,
clear water as pure as rain from Heaven;
Reminiscing my youth sitting by the river bank,
not letting dust gather on (my) brows and moustache.

The text is probably taken from writings by mid-Ming dynasty scholar-painter, Wen Zhengming (1470-1559), as indicated by the two-character signature, Zhengming.
