Lot Essay

Finch was the sixth son of the 3rd Earl of Aylesford, several of whose grandchildren were also talented amateur artists. A Prebend of Gloucester and Senior Fellow of All Souls, he drew caricatures as well as landscapes, having received instruction from J.B. Malchair (1731-1812). Finch's brother, the artist Heneage Finch, 4th Earl of Aylesford, was likewise taught by Malchair.
