12° (155 x 98mm). Ruled in red throughout, final blank. Engraved portrait frontispiece of Charles II with early hand-colouring. (Frontispiece torn and laid onto front blank, light soiling to title.) CONTEMPORARY BLACK MOROCCO GILT BY SAMUEL MEARNE, covers with panels delineated by fillets and dot roll-tools, the outer panel with a wavy garland sprouting leaves and various flower-heads, with flower cornerpieces, the inner panel with fleuron corner-pieces and central lozenge made up from various small tools including drawer-handles, daisy-heads and dots, the spine in six compartments with raised bands, repeat pattern in each of fleuron cornerpieces and around a small central lozenge, with CONTEMPORARY POLYCHROME FORE-EDGE PAINTING DATED 1683 of flowers (tulips, marigold and others) either side of a draped cloth bearing indistinct initials and the date, gilt edges (joints worn, head and foot of spine chipped, corners worn, modern endpapers), modern cloth box.
