The Atlas Royale is a counterfeit edition published at Amsterdam by Mortier of Jaillot and Sanson's Paris Atlas Franis; both atlases were first published in 1695. As Pastoreau points out, the false imprint of Nicolas de Fer at Paris is in some sense justified, as some copies, including the present one, contains the plans published by Fer as Forces de l'Europe. The publication history of this work is further complicated by the fact that in the present copy the second title has the imprint of Gallet of Amsterdam pasted over that of Mortier. The maps correspond to Pastoreau with the exception of variants of maps 52-55 (2, not 4 maps are present), substitution of map 83 and without map 88. Pastoreau Fer IIIc (with title dated 1699).
