MOLLET, André (d.1665?). The Garden of Pleasure, Containing several Draughts of Gardens Both in Embroyder'd-Ground-Works, Knot-works of Grass, as likewise in Wildernesses, and others. London: T.N. for John Martyn and Henry Herringman, 1670.

2° (447 x 285mm). 26 engraved plates only (of 39), by I. V. Velde and W. Hardman after Mollet, 2 folding, 23 double-page (The first folding plate soiled at head, 2 plates close-shaved, 2 spotted.) Contemporary speckled calf (extremities scuffed).

VERY RARE. Many of the plates were reprints, first used in Mollet's Le Jardin de Plaisir, published in 1651 in Stockholm, whilst he was employed by Queen Christina. Mollet was later employed by Charles II but this work is almost certainly posthumous as he probably died during the Great Plague in 1665. Henrey I.257 ("appears to be an exceedingly rare work").
