HORATIUS Flaccus, Quintus (65-8 B.C.). Opera. Parma: Bodoni, 1791.

2 (440 x 290mm). (Occasional very light spotting.) Contemporary Italian red straight-grained morocco gilt, covers with decorative borders of various roll-tools and fillets, the spine in seven compartments with raised bands, black morocco lettering-pieces in two, the others with repeat decoration of various small tools surrounding a central trophy tool representing various gardening implements, gilt turn-ins, blue watered silk endleaves, g.e. (very light scuffing to extremities). Provenance: Jean de Foligny (contemporary presentation inscription, in Latin, from G.M.Batten, son of J.H.Batten of the "Collegio Anglo-Indici").

A fine copy of one of Bodoni's masterpieces, limited to 125 copies, and the first of his series of classics. The present copy has paper watermarked with a cross on a mound, and initial F.P. on a mound. Brooks 417.
