4 volumes, 2 (325 x 280mm). Half-titles. Engraved frontispiece and 275 plates by Jean Baptiste Oudry engraved by Cochin, Chedel, Prevost and others. Early 19-century diced Russia, elaborately gilt, inner dentelles (rebacked in style, slightly rubbed, corners restored). Provenance: John Marshall and James Garth Marshall (old ownership inscriptions on front-fly leaf to volume 2).

FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE. Plate 271 in its first state, the banner before the lettering. An attractive copy of one of the greatest of all French illustrated books. (4)
