With flat base and rounded sides, shoulders taper to the neck and the rim flares slightly, thick walls painted over a creamy white slip in deep red and black, two scalloped diamond motifs enclosing circular medallions enclosing star patterns, flanking interfacing large scale "rain bird" spirals, three stripes on the rounded shoulder, surmounted by a neck band of serrated patterns surmounted by a pair of stripes at the rim, hatch and cross-hatch elements overall 9in. (24.7cm.) diameter

Two tags on the bottom. The first reads: "TENNESSEE HISTORICAL SOCIETY, Piece No. 7, Mrs. Gen. Geo. Buell, Fort Houston of New Mexico. December 7, 1881." The second reads: "8016430/16/THS"
