A French Silver-Hilted Small-Sword
Paris, circa 1753
With tapering double-edged spadroon blade (associated ?) of flattened hexagonal section lightly etched and gilt at the forte on each side with foliage and a trophy and retaining some gilding (lower half of blade pitted), pierced and chased hilt decorated with foliage, sunbursts, garlands of flowers, and simulated brilliants, with shallow pointed oval shell-guard, short straight quillons with lobed tips, one arm struck with an indistinct maker's mark and the letter 'N' crowned, and cloth-covered grip bound with silver ribbon and twisted wire

The silver mark appears to be that of the Maison Commune for 1753
