With earlier blade double-edged at the point, and with notched spine, each side with interrupted elaborately pierced shallow fuller and struck twice with the bladesmith's mark of Jaspar Bongen of Solingen, the hilt cast and chased in relief with foliage, figures, birds and animals on a punched ground and with tapering shagreen-covered grip, in later silver-mounted wooden scabbard apparently retaining the locket and chape from the original scabbard, silver maker's mark WS, a pellet between
