Lot Essay

Antoine Marie Mlotte was born in Lige on 5 september 1722. He was a pupil of Jean Simon Cognoulle (1687-1744). In 1739 he is first registered in the Guild of Carpenters in Lige and in 1746 he is mentioned as a 'marchand sculpteur'.

A relief of an equestrian battle by Mlotte was sold at Sotheby's London, 16 December 1998, lot 139 (12,000 UK pounds).

According to family tradition this relief was part of the collection of the counts De Marchant et D'Ansembourg at Chateau de Hex and later transferred to their Chateau de Neubourg in Gulpen.
