A French ormolu-mounted tulipwood and Vernis Martin-decorated bombe secretaire cabinet

Of serpentine shape, the spreading top above a cupboard door centred by a Vernis Martin panel decorated with a Watteauesque scene, within a foliate-cast cartouche-shaped border, opening to reveal an interior fitted with two shaped shelves above a pair of small drawers, above a drawer with fall-front with helmet and spear-cast escutcheon and with pull-out green and gilt-tooled leather-lined writing surface, above a further frieze drawer, on tapering cabriole legs each headed by a satyr mask and acanthus clasp, on scrolled acanthus-cast feet, the upper back left side stamped ZWIENER, the back with later retailer's stencil LECOULES/62 Rue Taitbout/75009 Paris
