L. F Deardorff had been employed by the Rochester Optical Company in the 1890s and at one time had a responsibility for the Premo range of cameras (see lot 305). He moved to Chicago as a camera repairman and began building cameras on request around 1920. In 1923 Deardorff was commissioned to build ten cameras for architectural use. The company made the change from hand production to outsourcing some metal parts in 1926.
