Lot Essay

The London firm of Clementi & Co., musical instrument makers and music publishers, was so named after the composer and keyboard player Muzio Clementi (d.1832) who came into partnership with Longman & Broderip in the early 1790's. The firm traded under this name from 1800 when Longman left to set up his own business.
