A FLEMISH HISTORICAL TAPESTRY
Late 17th early 18th Century
Woven in wools and silks, depicting Darius in Shackles before Alexander from The History of Alexander with Alexander seated on a griffin throne with a general behind him pointing to Darius wearing shackles, within a florally swagged border with putti and nymphs to each side and a cartouche to top and bottom, the sides and bottom with a brown outer slip and the top with a later green outer slip, with painted panels to the top right and bottom left corner as well as smaller sections throughout, sections retouched with paint, reduced in height to the bottom, small areas of reweaving
9 ft. 10 in. x 7 ft. 6 in. (300 cm. x 234 cm.), excluding the later outer slip
