A LATE LOUIS XV ORMOLU-MOUNTED TULIPWOOD, HAREWOOD, SATINWOOD AND MARQUETRY CHIFFONNIERE

Banded and cross-banded overall, the three-quarter pierced galleried oval top inlaid with a trophy depicting quivers, bows and foliage within a flower-filled trellis border and reciprocal chequer lines, above a gilt-tooled beige leather-lined slide and a drawer with conforming trellis marquetry and a drawer to the right, above cabriole legs headed by flowerheads within harewood roundels, joined by a kidney-shaped undertier with a floral spray and on scrolled foliate sabots, restorations to the marquetry, with indistinct stencilled inscription to the under-tier and remains of depository label inscribed 'L BEDEL' and 'CI...'

Lot Essay

This chiffonire is closely related to a group of tables en chiffonnire which are either stamped by or attributed to Jean-Pierre Dusautoy. Two related Tables en chiffonnire are illustrated in F. J. B. Watson, The Wrightsman Collection, 1966, vol. 1, no. 138 and 140, pp. 277 and 280. Another related breccia marble top table, from the Estate of Joseph Gruss, was sold at Christie's New York, 24 April 1994, lot 263.
