A George III ebonised and gilt-bronze mounted musical bracket clock for the Turkish Market, last quarter 18th century
The case with flambeau urn finials to the bell top with foliate cast mounts, handles to the sides with elaborately pierced and engraved sound frets, trailing floral caryatids to the four angles, the gilt-brass bound base on scrolling foliate bracket feet, the florally painted dial with silvered chapter ring with Turkish chapters and pierced blued steel hands, the matted centre with calendar aperture and the arch with four tune music selection for Lovely Nymph/Jigg/Gavot/Minuet, the centre signed Prior London on a silvered plaque flanked by subsidiary rings for strike/silent and chime/silent, the five pillar triple wire fusee movement with verge escapement, the music playing on ten bells via ten hammers with an unusual change of tune arrangement whereby the hammers and bells are suspended above the plates on an individual platform sliding forwards and back to the change of tune, with hour strike on further bell, the backplate with foliate engraving around a central pagoda
