Lot Essay

The insatiable appetite for opulence and luxury which predominated the 1920s and 1930s lead to the creation of fantastic jewellery and objects of vertu. The French firm of Cartier were quick to meet this growing demand among the new nouveau riche, producing luxury items such as powder compacts, cigarette cases and vanity cases.
