A fine mid-19th-Century model of a French single cylinder horse drawn Portable Engine
the riveted copper return tube boiler with fittings including level test cocks, safety valve with spring balance, regulator, clack valves and washout plugs, the vertical single cylinder engine mounted in a compartment withopening doors at the forward end of the machine, the brass cylinder approx. 1in. bore x 1in. stroke, the valve chest with separate steamways, pear crank, the big end running in guides of steeple form above the access door, direct coupled vertically mounted feedpump with externally operated shut-off valve, the overmounted crankshaft running in bearings supported on brackets bolted to the inside. Chassis details include turning lock, cast spoked wheels with brass hubnuts, check chains, brake shoe, fire bars (loose), damper and folding chimney (support bracket loose), finished in dark brown and dark red with blue, white and black lining and polished brightwork, the smokebox doors with painted shield with three crowns -- 14 x 17in.
