Lot Essay

In the 1820s and 1830s, the Zulu clan, one of the Nguni ethnic groups, joined with the neighbouring Natal Nguni to form a Zulu empire. Traditionally grain farmers, the Zulu also kept large herds of cattle. Despite the fact that the Zulu had a highly organized military society, the white settlers, after prolonged warfare, wrested grazing and water resources away from them and annexed their land.
