Lot Essay

Hilary Pyle (loc. cit.) commments on the present work: 'Streedagh Strand in Sligo. Yeats painted a larger version with the same title in 1940. The young man in the foreground, seen half-length, may be compared with the youth in Islandbridge Regatta (National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin)'.
