Lot Essay

Charles Davis, brother of the sporting artist Richard Barret Davis, was Huntsman to Queen Victoria. A small full-length portrait of him in livery by Henry Barraud is in the Royal Collection (see O.M. Millar, The Victorian Pictures in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen, Cambridge, 1992 no.130.

This subject was engraved after Barraud by E. Hacker in 1849.
