Broad oval, a heron in shibuichi takazogan amongst lotus and reeds, signed Soriuken with a large gold seal Yoshinori and dated 1869 made at the age of 70, 6.4cm; oval, a temple bell and waves in yo-sukashi, gilt details, signed Yoshu Matsuyama ju Shoami Morizumi, 7.6cm; rounded square, the surface carved as wood grain inlaid with aoi leaves in two colours of gold, signed Shoami, 7.8cm; round, inlaid with writing utensils, shakudo rim, signed Shoami Shigetsugu, 8.6cm; hachimokko, tsuchimeji with irregular stampings and kanji, Tembo school, 8.3cm; round, formed as a butterfly in yo-sukashi within the rim, Shoami, 8.1cm; round, stylised chiselling and piercing, signed Shoami Shigenobu, 8.4cm; Oval, pierced with sedge hats, 6.3cm; Round, pierced as a wheel, 6.3cm; Mokkogata, yasurime, with floral piercing, 6.2cm; and a mokkogata tsuba with yasurime surface, inscribed Yamakichi, 7.8cm., all 17th-19th century (11)

Lot Essay

Seki Yoshinori was from Mutsu Province. After visiting Shikoku, Higo and Nagasaki, he settled in Edo at the age of 21. Some sources say that he self taught, but it is obvious that he had studied under Kumagaya Yoshiyuki.
