Each with a chandelle-filled fluted shaft surmounted by a lappeted rim hung with laurel garlands, above an oak-leaf rim and a square stepped plinth with pearled and lappeted rim, on bun feet, one bun foot later, both marked to the underside in red ink '979 A' and '979 B' respectively

Lot Essay

A pair of Louis XVI candlesticks of this model, but with the shafts in white Locr porcelain, from the collection of Henriette Bouvier is in the Muse Carnavalet, Paris (catalogue no. 225).

A related pair of candlesticks, but with gadrooned nozzles, was sold anonymously at Sotheby's London, 10 December 1993, lot 289; while another pair of similar candlesticks with a white Paris porcelain shaft was sold anonymously in these Rooms, 7 December 1995, lot 8. A third related pair of candelsticks of closely related shape, but with mahogany shaft, was sold anonymously at Sotheby's London, 10 June 1991, lot 222.
