With hinged octagonal sighted barrel stamped 'Smith. & Wesson. Springfield. Mass.' on the sighting rib, the top-strap with cylinder-stop, cartridge extractor below the barrel, cylinder stamped 'Patented April 3. 1855, July 5. 1859, & Dec 18. 1860.', iron frame and grip-strap, spur trigger, and ivory grips (iron parts with minor pitting and some discolouration)

The Model No. 2 revolver, produced between 1861 and 1874, was a popular personal sidearm with many officers and enlisted men during the Civil War.
