Lot Essay

The author, court poet at the court of Bijapur, was born in Khorassan and migrated to India in 1580 AD. He was well regarded by his patron, Ibrahim 'Adil Shah II (1580 - 1626), a lover of poetry and music, for whom he composed a number of works.
The present volume consists of various works: prefaces to the following, Khwan-i-khalil, Gulzar-i-Ibrahim, Nauras (the latter, a treatise on Indian music composed by his royal patron. In addition is a description of Mina Bazaar, built by Ibrahim 'Adil Shah, and in the margins, written on the diagonal, the Saqi Nameh, a long narrative.
