Serial No. 22823 for 1899
The blued barrel mounted with MARBLES/895R fore-sight and adjustable rear sight. Blued frame with large gold inlaid name Nat B. "Kiowa" Jones" on right side. Lever marked KSM. Checkered deluxe varnished walnut fore-end with ebony insert at tip and butt stock with checkered Winchester butt plate. Together with framed photographic image of Jones with this rifle and binder of Jones' State of Texas Ranger Force service records. 28 inch barrel.
With Winchester Factory letter noting: "Rifle, 30 Caliber, Received in the warehouse on September 18, 1899, Shipped from the warehouse on September 20, 1899, with 2 other Model 1895's, order number 38628."
Nat B. "Kiowa" Jones born Athens, Henderson County, Texas. Jones enlisted in the Ranger Force of Texas on May 4th, 1915. Assigned to Company C for temporary duty May 1, 1915 through October 31, 1915 in connection with stock thefts in Sutton County. Re-enlisting he served under Captain McDonald, CO. B; Capt. Smith, Co. C; and Capt. Bauer Co. E. His tenure as inspector for the Ranger Force ended in 1927.
