A ROMAN MOSAIC GLASS AND BRONZE FINIAL
circa 2nd-3rd century a.d.
The base rectangular in form, each side inlaid with glass panels of opaque red, yellow and green checkerboard, and a red and yellow rosette on a black ground framed by red, the central element conical in form with a flange at each end, with three elongated diamond shaped pendants inlaid with opaque red glass, each suspended from small horizontal loops, a large spherical bead above with a checkerboard pattern of yellow and red rosettes on a dark blue ground alternating with square panels of red and yellow checkerboard, the bead with a conical cap surmounted by a loop
