[EYBESCHUETZ, Jonathan (1690/95-1764)]. Novellae and homilies on the Pentateuch and on Sugyot in the Talmud. MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER

[Germany, second half 18th century]

4o (245 x 190 mm). 186 + [10 blank] leaves. Brown ink. Various cursive Ashkenazic hands. (Some minor staining, excellent condition.) Modern blind and gold-tooled brown morocco, blue paste-patterned edges, two modern paper flyleaves at back and front.

CONTENTS:
Most of the writings, perhaps all, are by R. Jonathan Eybeschuetz (in contrast to Neubauer's faulty identification), as recorded by his students. Many of the novellae are ascribed to R"Y, Rabbi of Altona-Hamburg-Wandsbeck, R"Y from Prague, R. Jonathan or simply 'our teacher'. Only some of the homilies are found in printed works by Eybeschuetz, albeit in different wordings (compare the explanation of Gen. 14:18 in the manuscript with the same in Eybeschuetz's Divrei Yehonatan). On fols. 186r-186v are extracts from different books of Kabbalah and practical Kabbalah.
