A 35cm. diameter terrestrial table globe made up of twelve chromolithographed gores and two polar calottes, the equator and prime meridian graduated in degrees, the ecliptic ungraduated, the oceans showing ocean currents, airline, steamship and Zeppelin routes, the continents with nation states variously coloured according to national possession, with details such as railways, rivers, mountains, towns and cities (some old abrasions) raised on a turned fruitwood column and circular base with inlaid compass

Lot Essay

The manufacture of this globe can be dated as around 1938/39, as there is an overlaid cartouche in Europe to show the changing political arena. The manufacturers were able to use recent gores with a small alteration to chart the German expansion at the outset of World War Two.
