Lot Essay

Thomas Turner was a great advocate of lightweight guns and he described the specification for his 'Featherweight' gun as follows:- 'A 12-Bore Gun, with Barrels and Action of FULL STRENGTH. Weighing 5lbs. Barrels 28 inches long, firing the usual charges of Black or Nitro Powder, without any unpleasant recoil, and giving equally as good results as heavier guns'
It is most unusual to find single examples of this gun and this is particularly so as pairs. The present very fine example appear to have been very little used
