Lot Essay

Honorary Major James Stewart Robertson died of enteric at Kroonstad on 1.6.1900, while serving in the 3rd Battalion, Black Watch.
A Magistrate for the county of Perth, and a Captain in the 3rd Battalion since late 1885, he volunteered for active service in South Africa in his mid-forties, and was initially attached to the 14th Hussars. Robertson was granted the rank of Honorary Major prior to his death.
