A Chestnut-Form Porcelain Box
Arita Ware, Meiji-Taisho Periods (Circa 1900)
Glazed on the exterior in iron-oxide with thick black patches to simulate the brown shell of the nut and moulded with a rough texture, burnt umber in the firing, to simulate the base of the chestnut shell, the underside of the lid and interior of the box painted in colored enamels over clear glaze with insects and a red poppy
