A Porcelain Bottle and Two Dishes
Arita Ware, Edo Period (18th Century)
The bottle Imari type, painted with a frieze of the 'Three Friends' (Shochikubai), pine, bamboo and plum, below bands of scrolling leaves and upright, pointed leaves in polychrome enamels over clear glaze and in underglaze-blue, the area above the ring foot painted in underglaze-blue with a band of angled lappets, and the circular lip painted with a pinkish-gold wash; one dish shallow, set on a wide, circular foot and decorated on the interior in underglaze-blue with rocks within narrow line borders and in Kakiemon-style enamels with pomegranates and peonies centering a chrysanthemum spray, one blossom iron-red and one gilt, the underside of the dish painted in underglaze-blue with foliate scroll and concentric lines, six-character mark in underglaze-blue kigyokuhotei no chin on base; another dish round, decorated in the shallow interior with a circle and semicircle of paulownia blossoms in underglaze-blue and red and green enamels over clear glaze, the underside decorated in underglaze-blue with foliate scroll and concentric narrow rings, three spur marks on base; together with a small porcelain bowl painted in red, green and black enamels with pheasants and trees and with two red buds and leaves on the interior
